Mobile Healthcare Case Study

The Customer

Our Customer is a company that strives to improve remote patient care for those unable to easily travel – a matter made dramatically more relevant throughout 2020 and beyond. By way of their partnerships with health clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, they help provide a telehealth connectivity solution to their most at-risk and under-connected patients.

The Challenge

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic the last couple of years, healthcare organizations have seen an increased need to provide their services in non-traditional ways, i.e., online-equivalents of doctor appointments, counseling sessions and patient care.

In order to achieve this, our Customer had to supply ready-to-use wireless telehealth devices and remotely track, secure, and manage the devices using an integrated Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution, which enable receiving routine updates and remote support. Throughout the lifecycle of each device, they had to be returned after each patient session for repair, sanitization, formatting, reassignment, and redeployment to a new patient.

The Solution

For this specific project, an Android smartphone with full remote control via MDM, was the primary recommendation. Furthermore, since they do not have the capabilities to service the devices, the Customer needed NUU to provide redeployment by way of forward and reverse logistics as described above, all while maintaining full HIPAA compliance.

The hardware suggested as part of the solution was the NUU X6 Plus, running Android 12. It features a 6.1″ HD+ display, 3GB of RAM, an MediaTek Helio A20 Quad-core 1.8GHz and a long-lasting 3,120 mAh battery. The X6 Plus is able to connect to all major cellular networks, including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, in the US, making it the ideal choice for our Customers. As needed, the devices receive framework updates Over The Air (OTA) to ensure that regular security and maintenance improvements are made.

As HIPAA compliance is of the utmost importance in this vertical, NUU partners with some of the industry’s leading EMM/MDM providers, as well as the top regional Managed Service Providers, to help our Customers, and others, to maintain such rigorous standards.

The Results

The X6 Plus devices are kitted, custom-provisioned through the MDM, and shipped. Once received, patients need only power up the device before they’re looking at a per-patient customized starting screen. The MDM keeps the device as single-use and prevents patients from getting lost within irrelevant areas of the standard Android interface.

As recommended, appointments are arranged with the patient in advance and are virtually attended using the X6 Plus device. Telehealth devices such as this specially-customized  android device of X6 Plus allow the patient to communicate with their healthcare providers while remaining safe and comfortable.
